ERNAKULAM

The Kerala State in Southern India is YMCA Ernakulamknown for its scenic Beauty, Fauna & Flora, Back waters, Sandy Beaches and is known as "God's Own Country". The Cochin city "The Queen of Arabian Sea" is the Industrial, business and tourism capital of Kerala. The Cochin International Airport has flights from many important cities in the world. Nearly two million NRIs of Kerala are living abroad. Cochin is one of the fastest growing cities in South India. A large number of Public Sector Industries, various trade promotion councils with all India jurisdiction are situated in and around Cochin. The proposed World Trade Centre, International Pepper Exchange, International Techno-park, Export Promotion of Industrial Park and Container Terminals are only a few examples to highlight the importance of Cochin in terms of Trade and Industry. An International Convention Centre and many attractions make Cochin a busy hub. Cochin is also located in the Central Part of Kerala. It is 75 KM away from the city of Trichur which is the cultural capital of Kerala.

Located on the coast of the Arabian YMCA Ernakulamsea, Kochi is a cluster of islands on the Vembanad backwaters. It is the commercial capital and the most cosmopolitan city of Kerala. Kochi has one of the finest natural harbours in the world and has long been referred to as the queen of the Arabian sea. Once a major centre of commerce and had trade with the Arabs, Chinese, Portuguese. Dutch and  British. All these foreign traders have left their mark on this beautiful island. Half the fun of visiting Kochi is moving around on the local ferry boats. A conducted cruise through the windy waterways will take you to several quaint spots.


BOLGHATTY ISLAND

This island is famous for its palace of the same name. The Bolghatty Palace was built in 1744 by the Dutch and later taken over by the British. Today it is a hotel run by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation, with a small golf course and special honey-moon cottages.


WILLINGDON ISLAND

Willingdon Island is named after Lord Willingdon, a British Viceroy to India. He made the island surrounded by beautiful backwaters. The Island is the site of the city's best hotels, customs and trading centres, the port trust and the headquarters of the southern Naval command.


FORT KOCHI

Access : Backwater ferry / bus / three wheeler auto rickshaw. A leisurely walk through the city is the best way to discover historic Fort Kochi. An obscure fishing village that became the first European township in India, Kochi has an eventful and colorful history to tell. Its reputation as a seafaring commercial town was such that Nicholas Conti, an Italian traveller of the middle age remarked: If China is where you make your money, then Kochi surely is the place to spend it. The town was shaped by the Portuguese, the Dutch and later the British. The result of these cultural interfaces are seen in the many remains of Indo European architecture that still exist here.

The huge cantilevered Chinese fishing nets were brought here by traders from the court of Kublai Khan are a fascinating sight.

Ferry Services : There are two ferry stations in Ernakulam. The main boat jetty is 1 km from South Jn. railway station and the other is near the High Court on Marine drive north end.
