YMCA is a worldwide voluntary movement started in 1844 for the spiritual, mental and physical development of young people without any discrimination of Class, caste, color or creed and to inculcate true Christian values of charity and brotherhood among the youth.. It seeks to build a community of justice with love, peace and reconciliation. It adopts a holistic approach for developing young minds, body and spirit, looking beyond the isolated symptoms, such as unemployment and homelessness.

Today it is the largest youth organization in the world; it works through 14,000 local associations and 40 million members in 127 countries. The YMCA seeks to help young people to develop their wholesome personality - mind, body and spirit - on sound principles. The basis and model for the YMCA is the personality of Jesus Christ whose life and teachings form its guiding principles. The word ‘Christian’ in the name indicates the spirit behind the YMCA and its motivation.

Ernakulam YMCA is one of the major YMCAs in India and caters to men, women and children of all religions, creed and cultures with no bias whatsoever. Its activities are varied and provides opportunities for growth and development for every section of the society

Ernakulam YMCA has two branches and projects for the betterment of under privileged children spread over in the city of Cochin and suburbs. Its range of activities include providing accommodation & hospitality, meeting & conference facilities, outdoor games, indoor games, art & cultural activities, educational institutes & vocational training centers, intellectual pursuits, social services, camping services, etc.
